Dressing for Success

Dressing for the first week of work is undoubtedly a daunting task. Appearing too casual can make one look unprofessional, yet overdressing can make a new employee stick out like a sore thumb.

In one word, here’s the dress policy for UPMC Enterprises: VARIETY.

Unlike other departments within UPMC, you will see quite the array of styles on a normal day at UPMC Enterprises. Some people wear a suit and tie each day, while other employees wear shorts, t-shirts and sandals. Generally, however, employees dress somewhere in between the two extremes. The typical outfit for men tends to be jeans/khakis, a casual button-down or polo shirt, and comfortable shoes. A common outfit for women would be jeans, a casual blouse and flats.

Ultimately, it’s important to dress for the role you are performing. If you’re scheduled to meet with a higher-level executive, shorts and a t-shirt will not cut it. Yet, casual attire might be perfectly acceptable if you’re going to be working at your desk all day.

Regardless, UPMC Enterprises has a flexible dress code that many other departments don’t offer, providing a comfortable work environment for all employees.
