Hi, I’m Kaleya, and I’m a nurse at UPMC Shadyside!
My UPMC story began three years ago when I got my start as a behavioral health patient care technician (PCT). During my time as a PCT, I was thinking about what the future would hold and what goals I had in the field of medicine. With my goals in mind, I made the decision to go back to school and get another bachelor’s degree while working full time, and it was the best decision I have ever made. I now have my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN ), and am on my way up the nursing career ladder at UPMC!
Though I’m a relatively new nurse, I’ve been trying to figure out what my next career goal is. After experiencing UPMC’s “new hire training,” which is designed to equip and empower nurses to succeed in their care facility, I noticed myself feeling drawn to the role my instructors played in my career. Now, as I think about the future, I dream about becoming part of the nursing faculty, teaching new nurses just like me.
I can’t wait to see how my education as a nurse and a professional play out in the future and where my love of nursing will take me next!
Whether UPMC nurses are building specialty skills, gaining experience in various settings, or continuing education, a career on our team allows you ample opportunities to grow, develop, and make a difference in the fast-paced field of nursing.
