A Cutting-Edge Approach to Care

The ten-story UPMC Mercy Pavilion will offer comprehensive care for patients with rehab and vision needs, with a patient-centric, mobility-minded design and extensive features including:

  • Eight eye disease operating rooms
  • 83 eye exam rooms
  • 10 rehab exam rooms
  • 100,600 square feet of research space

Research-Based Innovation & Care


The UPMC Mercy Pavilion will serve as the new headquarters for the UPMC Vision Institute, which combines clinical and research expertise from UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Ophthalmology to quickly move research into practice, revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment experience, and improve the quality of life for patients with visual impairments. UPMC Mercy is also the flagship location of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute. To help address critical needs of patients living with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and musculoskeletal pain, UPMC Mercy Pavilion will provide outpatient rehabilitation to individuals in need of physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as physician services.

Through collaboration and real-time feedback made possible through this new facility, our research innovations will truly address the critical needs of our patients. Our physicians, researchers, and allied specialists will continue their collaborative efforts in providing world-class clinical care and conducting impactful research in this new space, with a host of patient-centered resources and innovative technologies.
