Building an outstanding workforce is a big task, and it’s one that we take seriously at UPMC. It’s not just about having an amazing team of Life Changers today – it’s about looking to the future as well. We’re committed to training, developing, and equipping young leaders within our organization who will help carry us into the coming years and continue changing health care for the better. That’s where UPMC’s Finance Management Rotational Program comes in!

UPMC’s FMR Program is a unique three-year development program that provides recent college graduates with the tools and experiences to become a finance leader in the health care industry. FMRs rotate through positions in Health, Insurance, and Corporate Services to gain a comprehensive background of UPMC’s Integrated Delivery Finance System and to discover where they best fit within UPMC.

Let’s get to know a current member of the Finance Management Rotational Program and two former FMRs who have continued in their careers at UPMC!

Laura Pawlik, FMR

Laura: Being in the FMR Program has been a wonderful experience for me. I am currently starting my third rotation and have had nothing but great opportunities during my first two years with UPMC. Throughout my time in the program, I have learned the importance of health care finance and have been able to grow as a financial analyst by getting to work on projects that connect finance and operations. As an FMR, I have also had the opportunity to interact with UPMC leadership through presentations and meetings, which is a unique and important benefit of the FMR Program. One of my favorite things about the FMR Program, and UPMC in general, is the sense of community at the company. By rotating through multiple areas, I have been able to expand my network throughout UPMC. Additionally, I have enjoyed getting to participate in various service events and social gatherings throughout my time in the program, which has been a great way for me to get to know and make meaningful connections with other FMRs.

Adam B., Senior Financial Analyst

Adam: I began the FMR program in 2017, having recently graduated from Penn State University in that same year. During my three years in the program, I had the opportunity to work on fantastic teams with even better people. In my opinion, the networking opportunities and executive exposure that the program offers are what make it so unique and rewarding. After experiencing each of the divisions in my three rotations, I graduated the FMR program in the summer of 2020 with a well-rounded understanding of UPMC Finance and our role in supporting the greater mission of UPMC. I’m incredibly thankful for having the opportunity to have been a part of such a great program and I look forward to seeing all the success each new class will bring to the organization.

Paul M.Director of Finance

Paul: UPMC’s FMR program was the best start I could’ve asked for to my career. Getting a broad range of experience across health care finance accelerated my understanding of the company and industry. Since graduating the FMR program, I’ve leveraged the skills and network I developed to progress in my career and contribute to UPMC’s mission in a meaningful way. I’ve stayed at UPMC for over 13 years due to the challenge, fulfillment, and opportunity available through my work and relationships. The FMR program helped me kickstart my career, and UPMC has continually provided opportunities to continue that growth trajectory ever since.

With a vested commitment to talent growth through skill development, executive exposure, and relationship-building, the FMR program continuously generates some of UPMC Finance’s top talent. Are you interested in being a part of this opportunity to become a future finance leader at UPMC?
